Vancouver'de kar sıkıntısı

Kış Olimpiyatları’na ev sahipliği yapacak Vancouver'de kar sıkıntısı yaşanıyor. Havanın beklenmedik şekilde ılık olması nedeniyle yetkililer, snow-board ve serbest stil kayak yarışlarının yapılacağı bölgeye, kamyonlarla kar nakli yapmaya karar verdi.

Türkiye son yılların en sert kışlarından birini geçirirken, Kış Olimpiyatları’na ev sahipliği yapacak Vancouver kar sıkıntısı çekiyor. Bölgede meteoroloji kayıtlarının tutulmaya başladığı günden bu yana en ılık Ocak ayı hüküm sürüyor. Bu durum özellikle snow-board ve serbest stıll kayak yarışlarının yapılacağı Cypress dağında, kar kalınlığının giderek azalmasını beraberinde getirdi.

Yarışlar sırasında yeterli kar olmamasından çekinen yetkililer, 250 kilometre uzaklıktan Cyress dağına kar nakletmeye karar verdi. Kar kalınlığının hali hazırda normalin çok az altında olduğunu vurgulayan organizatörler, yağış beklentisi içinde. Ancak olası bir sorun karşısında kullanılmak üzere, 150 kamyon dolusu kar cyress dağına doğru yola çıkarıldı.

Vancouver Kış Olimpiyatları 12-28 Şubat tarihleri arasında düzenlenecek.

Teşekkürler Can. Cypress'ta geçen sene de kar sıkıntısı olmuştu ve epey bir kapalı kalmıştı kayak merkezi.

Arkadaşlar Vancouver ile ilgili bir haber de benden, bugün PETA'dan posta kutuma düşen maili sizlerle paylaşmak istiyorum. Uzun bir mail olduğu için Türkçeye henüz çeviremedim, İngilizce yayınladığım için özür dilerim şimdiden, özetle Vancouver'daki oyunlar bittikten hemen sonra fok avı sezonunun başlayacağından ve olimpiyatlara gölge düşürmemek için hükümetin bu konuda hiçbir aksiyon almadığından bahsediyor sanırım. Mailin tümünü de okuyamadım, okuyup çevireceğim ama bu ayıbı PETA gibi ben de kınıyorum...

With the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics just weeks away, the airwaves will soon be full of fluff pieces about the "Olympic spirit" and the Games' Canadian hosts. But there's one story that the Canadian government is desperate to keep quiet—the seal slaughter that will begin very soon after the Olympics end.

PETA is not going to let the Canadian government cover up this travesty. By making an urgent donation in support of our work, you can help us turn up the heat on the Canadian government to end the bloody massacre of baby harp seals.

Each year during Canada's seal massacre—which usually begins in early March—tens of thousands of gentle baby seals are shot or have their skulls crushed. Standing no chance against armed sealers, many infant seals are bludgeoned before they even eat their first solid meal or learn how to swim. Sealers routinely hook seals in the eye, cheek, or mouth to avoid damaging their pelts, then drag the seals across the ice, skin them, and leave them to die. Meanwhile, their mothers are forced to watch from just a few feet away, crying out as their young pups are killed.

This is the largest slaughter of marine mammals anywhere in the world, and it must be stopped.

With the whole world watching, this is the time to demand an end to Canada's ghastly slaughter of helpless seals. That's why PETA has made the Vancouver Olympics the focus of our global anti-fur campaign. We have held public demonstrations almost everywhere that Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper travels and outside Canadian embassies around the world. Our protesters have followed the Olympic torch across Canada, and more than 530,000 people have signed our Facebook petition calling for an end the massacre. But despite this global outcry, the Canadian government has still refused to stop the slaughter.

Today, we need your help to put even more pressure on the Canadian government and shine a spotlight on the plight of these seals.

Add your name to our petition to Prime Minister Harper demanding that the Canadian government permanently end the seal slaughter.
